Up Down Pattern

The Up Down Pattern Game from Control Unleashed is used as a warm up for other pattern games. We also use it when we need to get our dog's attention and focus. It's very helpful when we can't move. A dog who barks and lunges on leash at other dogs or people can benefit from the Up Down pattern, especially if you're trapped by approaches from multiple directions. Always learn in low distraction environments and practice, practice, practice before using it in harder situations.

Instructions

1. UP

   1. Handler shows treat to dog.

2. DOWN

   1. Handler places treat on the ground.

   2. Dog eats the treat off the ground.

3. UP

   1. Dog looks back up in anticipation of another treat.

4. DOWN

   1. Dog looking at handler cues handler to place another treat in

      the same spot on the ground for the dog to eat.

5. ADD ON

   1. Add novelty into the pattern. You can change locations or add a

      helper, practice around other animals, etc.
