Window Cling Film
The Why & The How
We use window cling film to gently block some of the exciting “TV channels” your dog watches outside—like people, dogs, bikes, and delivery trucks—so they don’t keep practicing barky, lungy behavior at the windows. Every time your dog explodes at a passerby and that person keeps moving, it feels to your dog like, “I bark, and it works!” which makes the habit stronger and keeps their stress level high. By softening or blocking those stimulating visuals, we’re not punishing your dog—we’re simply lowering the volume on the world so their nervous system can relax. A calmer dog can think, rest, and actually learn the new, polite behaviors we’re teaching, instead of rehearsing the old noisy ones all day long. Window cling is a simple management tool that protects your dog’s mental health and sets them up for success with training.
Here is a great option for window cling film: https://amzn.to/4qC7dWL. (We like the frosted ones) If you measure the length and width of the bottom panes of the windows and pick one of similar width, it's much easier to install. It's also helpful to have a box cutter and a spray bottle for water on hand. The trick is to completely wet the window generously. Then, you put the film up and use your hand or a squeegee to push the water out the side and bottom. Just grab a paper towel to dry up all the water that you pushed out and you are done. It should stay put as long as you want it there.
Here are steps:
clean the window thoroughly
wet the window with water
peel the backing off the cling film
spray the back of the cling film with water
put the film on the window and adjust it (it should slide around easily)
once in place, hold it with one hand and squeegee out the excess water with the other
dry up the water you squeegee out and you are set!
